On Mental Health Tech in the Workplace

Hey,

how do you feel today?

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of being invited to the launch of a Workplace Mental Health program. I joined our colleagues in the NGA Service Center in St Johns, Canada, for the kickoff of “Not Myself Today“. It’s a program that helps employees express themselves, especially when things aren’t going well for them, and offers support through tools and resources.

Employee well-being programs are the top new workplace perks. You won’t be surprised to learn that mental health apps are on a roll - sales are up and a large number of companies secured additional funding to accelerate their growth.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a good time to explore the topic. Do people feel safe enough to ask for help in the workplace, when they struggle with mental health issues? How can employers support them? How good are apps in helping employees manage mental health issues and can they deliver what they claim?

In Mental Health Tech for employee well being I take a look at the science behind these workplace solutions. The article also includes a deep dive in the technologies that are in use today and describe where they are headed.

Apps come in many different flavors. To give you an idea of what is available, I’ve created an overview of Mental Health Apps. The selection is based on recent funding rounds and includes local and global solutions.

Do you use a mental health app? And does it help you feel better?

Keep safe and sane, Anita

Burnout: Modern Affliction or Human Condition?

Burnout was only recognized by the WHO in 2019 as an occupational, not a medical condition. Jill Lepore wrote this insightful read for the New Yorker: “As a diagnosis, burnout is too vague to be helpful—but the rise of burnouts tells us a lot about the way we work.”

The Top Workplace Perk

What benefits do your employees value most? Free lunches and cool office spaces are out. With 1 in 3 adults reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression, it’s no surprise that workforce wellness programs are the top new workplace perk. You’ll find a list of 8 dimensions of wellness and suggestions to help employees nurture each of them.
